Interview with Imran

Thank you for joining us for this agency profile! We’d like to start by getting an understanding of your backstory. How did you come to own your business?

I didn’t just wake up one day and decide to be a “Fractional CFO.” It was a transition born out of a realization: high-level financial strategy shouldn’t just be for the Fortune 500.

After years of navigating the complexities of corporate finance, I saw a recurring theme. Brilliant founders were building incredible products, but they were often “flying blind” when it came to their numbers. They had bookkeepers who looked backward, but they didn’t have a partner looking forward. I launched my practice to fill that gap – to give entrepreneurs the same sophisticated financial eyes that billion-dollar companies have, but at a fraction of the cost. I own this business because I wanted to be the catalyst that turns a “successful” brand into a “scalable” legacy.

Terrific! Our readers are primarily entrepreneurs and e-commerce businesses. So – can you share your top 3 keys to running a successful online brand?

For e-commerce founders, the “vibe” might sell the first unit, but the “math” sells the next million. Here are my non-negotiables:

  1. Obsess Over Contribution Margin. Don’t get blinded by “Top Line” revenue. If you spend $10 to make $12, but your shipping and pick-pack costs are $3, you’re losing money on every sale. Know your numbers at the unit level.
  2. Inventory is Cash (And Cash is King). In e-commerce, your bank account is usually sitting in a warehouse. Poor inventory management is the #1 killer of profitable brands. If you overstock, your cash is trapped; if you understock, you lose momentum. Balance is everything.
  3. Data-Driven Decisions Over Gut Feelings. I love founder intuition, but I trust a spreadsheet more. Successful brands track their LTV (Lifetime Value) vs. CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost) religiously. If you don’t know how much you can afford to pay for a customer, you can’t scale your ads safely.

Excellent. Can you tell a story about one challenge, setback, or mistake that you’ve had to overcome on the road to success? How can others learn from your mistakes?

Early in my journey, I worked with a brand that was doubling revenue every month. On paper, it looked like a rocket ship. We were so focused on fueling that growth that we ignored a creeping inefficiency in their returns process and rising ad costs.

When the market shifted slightly, the “growth” evaporated, leaving behind a massive overhead that the remaining revenue couldn’t support. We had to make some incredibly painful cuts to save the business.

Growth is a vanity metric; Profitability is a sanity metric. Never scale a broken model. If your unit economics don’t work at $10,000 a month, they definitely won’t work at $1,000,000. Fix the foundation before you build the skyscraper.

Thanks for that. Now – we want to know what’s next! What new initiatives are you rolling out at your business and what results are you hoping to see?

We are currently rolling out a new Real-Time Financial Dashboard initiative for our clients.

Most founders wait until the 15th of the next month to see how they did last month. That’s like driving a car while only looking in the rearview mirror. Our goal is to provide live, integrated data that connects Shopify, Amazon, and marketing spend directly to the P&L. I’m hoping to see our clients make pivots in days rather than weeks, allowing them to capitalize on winners and kill losing campaigns before they drain the bank.

Sounds exciting! Any final words of advice for our readers?

My parting thought is simple: You cannot manage what you do not measure. As an entrepreneur, you wear a hundred hats, and “Accountant” is usually the one you want to take off first. But don’t confuse accounting with finance. Accounting tells you where you’ve been; finance tells you where you’re going. Even if you aren’t ready for a CFO yet, start acting like one today. Build a relationship with your numbers – they are the only part of your business that won’t lie to you.

Brilliant! We want to thank you for participating in today’s interview. Hopefully our readers agree that there is a lot to be learned from your story. What links can our readers use to follow along with your journey?
